The ANALYST Project is proud to welcome Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emma Strömberg to its Advisory Board. A distinguished researcher and expert in polymeric materials, Dr. Strömberg brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in sustainable material science, circular design strategies, and Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) implementation.

Current Roles

Dr. Strömberg serves as:

• Senior Researcher in polymeric materials at the IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute

• Project Coordinator of the EU-funded project IRISS, which promotes the implementation of SSbD across chemical and materials innovation in Europe​​​​

Background & Expertise

​

Emma Strömberg is Associate Professor in polymeric materials with a background as a PhD in polymer technology and a Master's degree in chemical engineering. Emma has extensive experience in working with strategies to achieve sustainable solutions for polymeric materials regarding the management of plastic waste, material selection and flows, design of products for recycling, recycling opportunities, and the replacement of conventional materials with fossil-free alternatives. She has worked on mapping material use (primary, secondary, and bio-based raw materials), contributed with expertise on various assignments for authorities and industry, created collaboration for possible traceability within value chains, and contributed to policy documents and recommendations. Emma has long experience in standardization.

 

Emma also has extensive experience in working within and leading EU projects. The research focuses on the implementation of strategies and methods for safe and sustainable chemicals and materials, already at the design stage (Safe-and-Sustainable-by-design (SSbD) concept).
